CLIVE WALKER

AUTHOR & ARTIST

Author and artist Clive Walker has been a well-known name in South African conservation circles ever since he founded the Endangered Wildlife Trust in 1973. He and his wife Conita live near Vaalwater in the Waterberg where their son Anton and his wife René run the Waterberg Living Museum.

A gifted wildlife artist and photographer, many images of which are included in the 15 books he has published covering wildlife across all regions in Southern Africa. His most well-known book is “Signs of the Wild”, first published in 1981 and is the definitive guide to the spoor & signs of the mammals of Southern Africa – widely used by professional guides. He has lectured widely and successfully raised funds for wildlife projects through wildlife prints in limited editions since 1973 of his own paintings and those of many other South African artists.

In 2022 the CLIVE WALKER GALLERY was established at the museum where his work is on permanent display. He has not produced any LIMITED EDITION work since 1996 and this heralds his return with the masterful scanning of his originals by SILVERTONE and printing on canvas and paper in limited editions, signed with a monograph imprint. With each print purchased you will be supporting  the museum’s upkeep and educational programs.

WATERBERG LIVING MUSEUM

ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Over the many years of Clive Walker’s career, as a conservationist and wildlife artist, he collected many interesting natural and cultural items. These items led to the creation of the original Waterberg and Rhino Museum in 1997, in the Melkrivier area.

The New Waterberg Living Museum complex is spread over 50ha. The six museums are situated along a trail of  1.2km from the visitor entrance and reception, lounge, coffee bar, restrooms and covered parking.  The trail is a sandy path so comfortable walking shoes are advised.

Central to  the Museum’s vision &  mission is education. The  Waterberg Living Museum provides a unique facility for kids to visit and learn about nature and the environment.

The Museum’s collections and exhibits include mounted specimens of Waterberg wildlife, fossils of the Waterberg dinosaurs, exhibits on rhino and elephants, cultural exhibits as well as hominid fossils including the famous Mrs Ples (the nickname attributed to the fossil skull believed to represent the distant relative to humans).

Each artwork is limited to 30 prints.
